As the title says and suggests and sounds, it's pretty much a combination of screwed up cooking. My girlfriend had to be away for about week and I had to do with some cooking myself. Of course, haven't really much ventured into the world of cooking, this had to be one of the most inept things that I have ever done. My hands are tied from cooking so far and the ability to whip up a certain dish is rather limited. Of course, I do have a little trick or two to start off with, but to survive with a rice cooker, saucepan and some raw food, I guess I don't think I can last that long.
I stopped by at Tesco on day one and got some things that I guess wouldn't allow me to blow up the kitchen if I cook them. So cleverly, I got some frozen vegetables and chicken fillet. I hate to pry open all the skin and the bones, as that will take up too much time. So, fillet would do. Seeing that I rarely need spices, I left without all of those. My first venture was to cook something simple for dinner on the 1st night I was alone. So, I decided on chicken soup with mixed vegetable. That was the most sensible thing to do, and yet I screwed it up pretty bad. I filled up the rice cooker with water and chuck in all the chicken fillet that I wanted alongside the measurements labelled on the picture with regards to the vegetables I wanted. I left it on for about half an hour and administered some salt to go with it. It was pretty hot, so I left it to cool down for another 20 minutes. By then I was extremely hungry. I poured the soup into a bowl and walloped the whole thing without thinking twice. Of course, it was awful. There weren't any taste of salt in it and it was like drinking water. That must have been the healthiest ever meal that I ever had, I thought to myself.
And indeed it was. I got hungry 3 hours later, after I peed out all the soup. I had to fix myself with a big bowl of oats with milk before I scurried into bed with a growling stomach. =(
That was pretty much how it looked after it was done...
My girlfriend suggested that I go for stew on the 2nd day, and so I decided to give it a go. She gave me the specifics on how to whip up a good meal and I was delighted to try it out. I came back early that day and fixed myself another dinner to go. I jogged for an hour and by the time I returned, I was pretty hungry. But before I went for my exercise, I again filled up the rice cooker with now 2 liters of water and chuck in all the chicken fillet I wanted to eat alongside all the mixed vegetables that I wanted to devour. I then pried open the noodles that come in round shaped size, or whatever you call them. My girlfriend suggested oyster sauce, so I put a tablespoon of it into the soup to make it into a stew. Then this was followed by another half teaspoon of salt. I put it to boil for an hour and then left it to cool for another 20 minutes.
The noodle sitting on what turned out to be water rather than soup/stew. It looks good at first sight, but tasted VERY bland. Only a person like me can finish up two big bowls of this and didn't really complain, but looks like I am now...
From the boiling rice cooker, I thought I'd done a great job. It smelled awesome and the fumes were inviting. I poured into a huge bowl and devoured the first bowl without much thought. It was only the second bowl that when I started eating had I know that I was actually drinking noodles in water. The blandness irked me this time and I again had to end up hungry 3 hours later. Again, oats came to the rescue, and I fixed up a huge bowl of it myself before scurrying into bed with a growling stomach.
Third night came, I cooked the same as the first night and fried myself some eggs and chicken fillet. This tasted better with the olive oil that I put in and some chili sauce that I had. But again, that wasn't filling and I had to repeat what I did on the first two nights. Oats.
The final night, I decided to eat out. The rest is history. I definitely missed my girlfriend's cooking =(
