Jogging in Penang - Bukit Dumbar

Another place that I finally decided to have a go on. Bukit Dumbar boasts of its hilly nature and poses a strict resistance towards those who are keen joggers. Truly in itself, you can't apply HIIT training here nor rapid jogging or marathon, you'd spoil your knees in the long run and in due course. The hilly tracks coupled with the uneven patches along the jogging trek (meant to blend into the contour of the hill) takes a huge toll on your stamina if you decide to push for a run. There is however a bald linear track on top of the hill. That's the one you see on the left of the picture. As it was the first trial on the tracks since the last time I have actually been to this place was decades back, I took things the usual way. The slow jog which slowly increases to a medium pace stride.

I calculated one circle to be around the range of 280-300 meters. Did 14.5 rounds on that and that would translate into around 4-4.3 km. Decided to walk there from my house and the to and fro distance adds a further 1.2 km on top of the jogging distance. There are quite several exercise equipments placed strategically around the lower ground of the hills. The ones that I saw that were there includes the chin up bars and the push up bars. Did a few chin ups just for the fun of it but couldn't go more than 8 in a set after having burned so much calories under the hot sun.

Quite a good place if you ask me. It is well shaded from trees but it is recommended that you park a distance from the park in itself before walking there. Penangites would tell you why. =)
